What Is Hip Replacement?

Hip replacement is a surgical procedure that replaces a damaged or worn hip joint with an artificial implant. At Florida Orthopedic & Spine Institute, hip replacement is performed using anterior-approach and minimally invasive techniques.

The anterior approach accesses the joint from the front of the hip, avoiding the major muscles cut in traditional posterior approaches. This technique is designed to reduce tissue disruption during surgery.

Who Is a Candidate?

Hip replacement may be appropriate when non-surgical treatment has not relieved hip pain caused by:

  • Osteoarthritis or other joint degeneration

  • Avascular necrosis

  • Hip fracture

  • A previously failed hip replacement

A physician evaluation and imaging are required to confirm candidacy.
